King’s best bets - 15th October 2025

Sam King is back with two selections on Wednesday

The continued dry spell means that Wetherby's National Hunt card is really short on numbers, while not a lot takes the eye at Worcester.

There's still some top-class flat action to get through this season and it's a time of year where plenty of classy late two-year-olds emerge. That could well be the case at Nottingham and Kempton today, but they aren't exactly decent betting races, so it's best to look elsewhere.

The best bet on the Nottingham card could prove to be Campaign Trail, who returns to the turf for Kim Bailey in the Close Brothers Colwick Cup Handicap (3.44).

A likeable individual with three wins and four placings from his eleven career starts, Campaign Trail ran as well as could have been expected when filling the runner-up spot at Kempton following 120 days off, keeping on nicely after becoming outpaced.

His only other start at the Nottinghamshire venue resulted in a course and distance success when trained by Ralph Beckett and it's slightly surprising that he's not returned since, with the long galloping straight clearly something that plays to his strengths.

The booking of in-form rider Billy Loughnane will obviously do no harm, while the addition of first-time blinkers might just help him travel that bit more sweetly on the bridle for longer throughout his races.

A current mark of 84 shouldn't be unworkable and with that reappearance run under his belt, he looks like a rock-solid each-way proposition this afternoon.

Campaign Trail – 1pt Each-way

Odds – 11/2

At Kempton, Enpassant might get things his own way in the Try Unibet's New Improved Acca Boosts Handicap (7.10).

He was disappointing when only seventh at Newcastle following a victory at the same venue prior, but he might have done too much on the front end that day and he is the type to the bounce back.

Plenty of these like to be played late and while Kitaro Kich can race handily, he was too keen just five days ago, so jockey Neil Callan will surely be looking to get him to settle in the early stages. With that in mind, Enpassant looks like the obvious pace angle and I'm sure Rossa Ryan will look to dominate this from the front.

Michael Herrington's previous course and distance winner is well-drawn in gate two and might be capable of leading them a merry dance should things pan out as expected.

Enpassant – 1pt Win

Odds – 3/1
