Nicky Henderson’s top-class chaser Jonbon will bid to do what no other horse has managed when he attempts to land the Shloer Chase for a third time at Cheltenham on Friday.
A thirteen-time winner from seventeen starts over fences, Jonbon returns to Cheltenham having landed the prize on his reappearance on his last two seasons and although last year's Clarence House and Melling scorer was beaten when last seen in the Celebration Chase at Sandown in April, he remains a warm order to complete a hat-trick in the Shloer.
"He has been the most remarkable horse for us down the years and is Mr Consistent," Henderson told his Unibet blog.
"This race has always been his traditional starting point before, all being well, he heads back to Sandown for the Tingle Creek.
"We took him to Newbury a few weeks ago where he enjoyed a morning out which will have sharpened him up mentally and physically and I'm very happy with him coming into this."
Despite being a dual winner of the contest, Jonbon's Cheltenham record is far from perfect having suffered defeat in the 2023 Arkle, 2025 Champion Chase and when bumping into stablemate Constitution Hill in the 2022 Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
However, Henderson seems to have no worries about the return to Prestbury Park, which looks set to be hit by Storm Claudia heading into the three-day meeting.
He added: "A lot of people say he doesn't show his best form at Cheltenham, but he's won this race for the past two years, albeit when he might not have been particularly impressive.
"He usually improves for his first run, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here, especially if the ground is very testing."
