Irish Oaks at the Curragh

Fortunately for us punters not all the races have odds-on favourites.

Though this does not apply to the Railway Stakes for the 2yos over 1200m, where Aidan O'Brien's filly True Love  is on 8/11 as she goes for her second win in her fourth start.  She's by No Nay Never and as a filly gets the weight advantage and Ryan has chosen her but we think the stablemate Puerto Rico will have come on from his last start where he just got beaten by Learntodiscover.  He's by Wooton Bassett and Wayne Lordan has the ride.  Only four runners in the race which is a bit of a joke.

The Sapphire G2 over 1600m does better with eight runners and Ed Walker's Mgheara is on 15/8 with Ryan Moore aboard as he heads for a third consecutive win.  Rumstar is on 11/4 and we quite like Powerful Nation which is both trained and ridden by Andrew Slattery and hasn't been out of the frame in five starts.  The 5/1 quote looks tempting.

The Irish Oaks is pretty much a "made in O'Brien" race as both Aidan and son Joseph saddling runners.  Minnie Hauk is going for the Oaks Double and is 15/8 to do it.  Ryan Moore has the ride on the daughter of Frankel.  Joseph saddles Wemightakedlongway which is on 9/2 with McMonagle riding.  There's only 7 runners which ain't many for a Classic.

The Curragh Cup is G2 over 2800m and has a field of 9 headed by Joseph O'Brien's Al Riffa on 11/8 with McMonagle on board.  We like Shackleton on11/4 who was a bit disappointing last time out but could get redemption here.  And a bit of a roughie in Uxmal who hasn't raced since Ascot last year (where he won).  Joseph trains him and should have been able to get the work into him and Mikey Sheehy rides.  Nice pedigree.
