One of the favourite days in the year sees the running of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

However the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes G1 has attracted only 5 runners although they are top drawer horses or should we say four top drawer horses and a pacemaker.  Or take it down another step and three really top drawer horses, a promising horse and a pacemaker.

We love all the Jan Brueghels – elder, younger and equine – but we feel he may be made to keep his eyes fixed on Calandagan – on 7/4 and 13/8 respectively – so we are going for Rebel's Romance, a most honest horse and intrepid globe trotter who recently beat Al Riffa who probably prefers it longer but it was a decisive win and the current 11/2 looks very tempting.  It's really a contest between three of the big houses in racing – Coolmore, the Aga Khan's Estate and Godolphin which says a lot about current racing.

Earlier in the day at Ascot we have the Princess Margaret G3 for the little girls over 1200m with 11 to run.  As usual we add a note of caution to betting on 2yos as they are still growing both physically and mentally and anything can happen.  Current favourite is Godolphin's Dubawi filly Dance To The Music who won on debut sufficiently well to put her up the top here.  Flowerhead and Staya are both on 11/2 – Flowerhead is by Starman and his current crop are doing very well at present.  For the roughie we'll add Midnight Tango by Night Of Thunder 10/1 for Ed Walker and Tom Marquand.

The Valiant Stakes is G3 for f&m over 1600m with 11 runners.  Chantilly Race is on 7/2 which is generous as she hasn't done much this year and we are putting in Cajole on 11/2 who has run second in her last three outings and maybe Will Buick can urge her to go that one better.  Royal Dress is on 9/2 for James Tate & Doyle and an appropriate name for the day, and our roughie here is Pina Sonata 9/1 for Fanshaw-Muscutt.
