And a big Saturday at Del Mar

Featuring the Pacific Classic there's also three other graded stakes on the card.

Starting off with the Del Mar Mile on turf with 8 runners.  Formidable Man is on 5/2 for McCarthy-Rispoli with King of Gosford 3/1 for d'Amato-Prat and the Argentinian-bred Full Serrano on 4/1 for Sadler – J J Hernandez.

The Torey Pines is also over the mile but on the dirt for 3yo fillies with 7 to run.  Tenma is on evens with the daughter of Nyquist coming up from Baffert's stables and J J Hernandez on board, with stablemate Howin seen as the most likely threat and D van Dyke on board the son of Gun Runner.

The Green Flash is Gr 3 over 1000m turf with a full field of 12 and 3 emergencies.  Motorious is on top here on 5/2 fir d'Amato-Fresu followed by Queen Maxima 9/2 Mullins – J J Hernandez and First Peace 5/1 for Glatt-Smith.

Then we have the Grade 1 Pacific Classic, over 2000m and eight starters.  You can't go past Journalism – he's in tremendous form and his last five outings read 1-1-2-1-2-1.  McCarthy and Rispoli combine as usual.  Fierceness is a good horse but has never quite reached the level expected of him and he's 3/1 here for Pletcher-Velazquez and there is strong support for Nysos who also has a brilliant record of five wins from six races and is on 8/5 for Baffert-Prat.

The Del Mar Handicap closes the features – it's sponsored by the JRA and has 11 runners over the 2200m turf course.  Gold Phoenix is on 3/1 for d'Amato-Prat, Final Boss 4/1 for Sadler- J J Hernandez and Atitlan 5/1 for Shirreffs-Berios.
