Promising young apprentice Lauryn Bingley is hoping to continue her winning form in Launceston this Friday night with five rides on the eight-race card.
After a stop-and-start beginning to this season, Lauryn Bingley has ridden three winners from her past 12 rides, including a double last week.
"It's good to be back, and the last two weeks have been pretty good," Bingley said after riding at the Longford trials.
Uncertain about where she would land after her previous stable dissolved its partnership at the end of the last racing season, Bingley has found herself with Hall of Fame trainer Barry Campbell at Devonport.
"We've moved down to Port Sorell, and Barry is great to work for, and the staff are great, and so far, it's working really nicely."
Bingley made a flying start as a jockey in 2022. She rode a winner on her first day of riding and had kicked home four winners from just 17 rides when she paused her career to give birth to a son, Billy, with her partner Kyle Maskiell.
"Kyle has him when I'm at work. We kind of tag team, and when he's at work, I have the little fellow."
Since returning to the saddle, Bingley has made her presence felt, taking her tally to 25 wins at a healthy strike rate of 16%.
'My fitness has a little to be desired at the moment, but I've just been chipping away, and I'm getting there.
"I've still got a fair bit left as an apprentice, I've got another two years, so it would be nice to go away in the next 12 to 18 months and just have a loan somewhere for a bit more experience. Obviously, Tanya and Kyle shut up shop with their training partnership, but I'm sure it's something Kyle will look at in the next two years, and I'll probably tag team along with him."
If she does head interstate at some stage, Bingley would be following in the footsteps of many before her who have successfully made the move including the latest Taylor Johnstone, who, after riding a winner in Launceston last Friday night, returned to her new home of Adelaide to kick home a double at Morphettville on Saturday.
"I was watching her the other day, and she is standing out; she's going super, and I look up to her as to what she is doing at the moment."
Of her five rides on Friday, Bingley thinks her best winning chance is on the John Blacker-trained Island Warrior in the BM68 over 1200m.
"I was lucky to jump aboard Island Warrior with Jackson (Radley) being suspended, and she looks like she will be hard to beat; she flew home first-up, and she goes around with 56kg, and I think she will be thereabouts, I'm sure."
Racing gets underway at 18.00 on Friday with the last at 21.50. Matt Reid will be trackside for the Tasracing Live coverage.
My best bet is Sh'Bourne Midnight in race four, while Rowing Power in race three was very unlucky last start.
