Trainer David McColm is hoping to target the glamour Magic Millions carnival over the summer with stable star Far Too Easy and heir apparent Pareto.

Far Too Easy, the reigning Kosciuszko champion in Sydney, is back in work following an extended two-month break while Pareto will line up in the Benchmark 75 Handicap over 1200 metres at Doomben on Saturday.

"We decided to give Far Too Easy a longer break and he's just come back into work," McColm said.

"We going to take him along slowly and target the Magic Millions but we'll see how he's going closer to the time.

Far Too Easy hasn't raced since tailing off last in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast in July.

McColm was formerly base at Murwillumbah but has been based at the Gold Coast for three months which made Far Too Easy ineligible to defend his Kosciuszko crown.

He has a big opinion of Pareto who like Far Too Easy dislikes hard tracks.

Pareto was a $150,000 yearling buy at the Magic Millions sales at the Gold Coast but is not QTIS eligible.

The son of Pierata has had seen starts for two wins and as many placings and is coming off a last start third to the Tony Gollan-trained Surprise Honet in an 1100-metre Class Two at Ipswich on September 3.

"I scratched him from Doomben on Saturday as Ipswich looks more suitable," McColm said.

"He's a very good horse but he hasn't reached his full potential yet.

"He has had few feet issued and like Far Too Easy he life softer tracks.

"When he gets the sting out of the ground, he's a couple of lengths better horse."

McColm admits he rushed Pareto early in his career when he failed in the Listed Dalrello Stakes at Eagle Farm as a two-year-old.

"It was only his second race start and mentally and physically he wasn't there," he said.

"He's a lot stronger now and I probably threw him in at the deep end a bit too quick when he was younger."

McColm wasn't disappointed with Pareto wasn't overly disappointed with Pareto's recent placing.

"It was a good run but it ended up a Good 3 which isn't ideal for him," he said.

"He's just not as dynamic on hard tracks."

McColmm, who has eight in work, will also head to the Magic Millions carnival with Pareto.
