Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 20th May 2024

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 20.

Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Albury, Stawell, Chinchilla and Taree.

ALBURY: RACE 2 @ 1:35 PM

DAKOTA ELEGANCE (2) nine start maiden with her hoof on the till. Backs-up quickly after being run down late when third at Cranbourne over 1000m on May 10. Danny Beasley takes the ride and finds a suitable race to shed her maiden status. CAPITAL ROCK (1) improved performance at start two when a plugging fifth at Ballarat over 1000m on April 3. Kept fresh and trained on the track. MISS GABBIANO (7) five-start filly having her first run for the Craig Widdison yard. Had mixed fortunes last time in and since fitted with a solid trial placing over 1000m at Wagga on April 21. Stable have tinkered with the gear and expected to sprint well fresh. IMPENDING LOVE (5) resumes. Worth noting she filled a minor placing first-up last prep at Corowa over 1000m. Has solid claims.
SELECTIONS: Dakota Elegance to win.

STAWELL: RACE 2 @ 1:30 PM

BORN TO SHINE (6) is knocking on the door, placing at her past three starts, running well again at Warrnambool over 1400m in what looks a stronger maiden than this. She rates highly and will prove very hard to beat. KEEFY'S BRO (1) has run fifth in both starts to date, good last time when quickly up in trip at Warrnambool. He should improve again and can figure. RADAR O'REILLY (3) is a gelding by Grunt on debut for the Aaron Purcell yard. Watch the market. TAURI (13) was solid on debut and could figure.
SELECTIONS: Born To Shine to win.

CHINCHILLA: RACE 5 @ 3:34 PM

MAMARAGAN (2) is having his third Queensland start after a couple of decent efforts at Rockhampton. He drops down in class and a 4-kilo claim means that he is not too badly treated at the weights. The distance suits him and he is ready to put his best hoof forward in this. ON HOLD (4) has won 2 races on the bounce since joining the Geran stable at Toowoomba. She is facing a similar lineup and with the aid of a 2-kilo claim, she can complete a hat-trick of wins. HIDDEN EYES (1) has always been a consistent gelding and since switching stables earlier in the year he has gone back to back for his new trainer, the most recent of those wins being at Quilpie 9 days ago. He has measured up in stronger fields in the past and is well placed to continue on his winning ways in this. SENSATIONAL REWARD (5) is resuming from a spell at the level and he normally comes to hand quickly. He is well-weighted after a 2-kilo claim and is capable of figuring in the finish fresh-up. Each way.
SELECTIONS: Mamaragan to win.

TAREE: RACE 7 @ 3:45 PM

The locally trained WHERE'S THE FIRE (2) found the Class 3 over 1200m at Newcastle out of his league last start. Stormed home to win a Class 1 over this distance at Muswellbrook three runs back which is a strong pointer to his chances. GOLDEN GALAXY (10) appreciated the drop in class when he just got home in a Bm50 over this course and distance last time out. Freshened up and although up in grade he should be about the mark. JOANNESKI (8) was facing the starter for just the second time when a comfortable maiden winner over today's journey at Gunnedah recently. Capable of testing this deeper field. Last start Taree maiden winner SIGSWORTH (7) has plenty of scope for improvement and should handle this stronger test. POITA (1) struggled first-up in a Bm66 over this distance at Scone. Down in class and has won 2/5 second-up so watch for a much better performance.
SELECTIONS: Where's The Fire is a nice each-way bet at double-figure odds.
