Twigman to score at Doomben

The seventh race of the day at Doomben is a 1650m Class 6 handicap event set to take place on a soft 5 surface.

Bettcha The Crown is expected to have his supporters having registered some solid efforts in defeat of late.

Those efforts include a four-and-a-half-length sixth in a 1600m Benchmark 85 handicap held on a soft 6 track at Eagle Farm at the start of this month.

The gelding was ridden from behind the speed that day but had front run when filling the same position in a similar race to this over 1600m here prior.

Desleigh Forster's representative looks to hold strong claims, however, preference is for the in-form TWIGMAN who is returning to metro level racing.

The four-year-old has won twice already this season, with the first of those wins coming in a 1900m Benchmark 68 handicap on a good 4 track at Gosford in October.

The pick returned from a spell with a length second in a Class 5 handicap over 1400m at Sunshine Coast month.

The son of Preferment overcame interference at the start that day and went one better when successful over this trip in a Class 4 handicap at Beaudesert on 1st June.

That Beaudesert success came on a heavy 10 surface, however, the quicker going expected here is no issue.

Zouphoria for Kensington glory

They are set to race on the Kensington track at Randwick with the penultimate contest a 1400m Benchmark 72 handicap for fillies & mares.

A heavy 8 track is expected here with Nanshe set to prove popular with punters with James McDonald set to ride.

Trained by James Cummings, the filly performed well when winning over this trip in a 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap at Kembla Grange last August.

Successful by two lengths on a good 4 track that day, she has made just two subsequent starts, including when third at Kembla Grange in a 1200m event first up this prep.

The filly has been freshened since finishing seventh at Warwick Farm on 8th May and, while she rates highly, she failed to convince on the heavy 10 going that day.

While unproven on the forecast going, ZOUPHORIA broke her maiden over this course and distance on a soft 7 track in December and is preferred on this occasion.

The three-year-old followed that success up with a narrow margin success over 1400m and acquitted herself well when beaten less than two lengths at Group 3 level in December.

Tim Clark's mount returned from a spell with a sixth, beaten just over five lengths in a 1200m Benchmark 78 handicap at Flemington last month.

The daughter of Zoustar is expected to have improved for that comeback run and, with a good barrier and stepping back in trip, she is taken to deliver a second up success.

Cleitus to double up

The fifth race at Ballarat is a 2000m Benchmark 64 handicap with trainer Symon Wilde set to be represented by CLEITUS.

The six-year-old demonstrated good placed form in December 2022 finishing runner-up twice including over 1400m at Terang.

However, he has made just three starts subsequently, including two this prep with the first of those coming when returning from over sixteen months off the track at Horsham.

The pick performed well in finishing one-and-a-half-lengths second in a Restricted 58 handicap held on a soft 5 track that day.

The gelding went one better when saluting over 1600m in testing conditions at Werribee on 1st June and stepping up in distance he is selected to complete a double.
