Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 19th June 2024

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for June 19.

Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Canterbury Park, Dubbo, Sandown, Doomben, Balaklava and Belmont.

CANTERBURY: RACE 5 @ 3:10 PM

REMATCH (2) wound up strongly from midfield on the turn to narrowly win a Rosehill Highway over 1500m in heavy going last start. Consistent gelding who carries weight well. Steps up to 1900m which holds no fears - he was beaten a length in Saturday open company over 2000m last prep. Clear top pick. TAJAWAL (4) wasn't asked for an effort in the run home in very heavy conditions at Rosehill last time out so forget the result. Neasham-trained import having his third Australian run and can show up now that he gets out over a bit more ground. Victorian visitor LOCO (1) did his best work late to get up for third over the mile at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago. Finished fourth in the SA Derby in 2023 so this extra trip is ideal at the third run back from a long break. GO TROPPO (5) wasn't beaten far in a similar race here nine days ago. Very fit and sure to be thereabouts again. MONARCHS BRAE (6) is twice a winner here at this trip and should be peaking third-up.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Rematch.

DUBBO: RACE 8 @ 4:35 PM

SOMERTON SNIPER (4) progressive sprinter who looks destined for better things. Returned for second prep with a slick victory over 1000m at Tamworth on May 21. Expected to go close again in this tougher contest. PYROMANIA (3) returned to form with a surprise neck win over this trip at Wellington on May 30. Well drawn again and pay to follow now he's recaptured his form. ANNYANME (9) improving filly with two wins from her last three starts. Went out hard early and paid the price late when a fading fourth over 1000m at Dubbo on May 25. This tougher but gets her chance from the draw with no weight. ISLAND LEGEND (7) fourth-up here and looks ready to win. Strong through the line with the 61kg when fourth over 1200m at Tamworth on May 21. Expected to be charging late.
SELECTIONS: Somerton Sniper to win.

SANDOWN-HILLSIDE: RACE 6 @ 3:20 PM

AWASH (2) comes here third-up and ready to fire. He made good improvement second-up at Cranbourne in a small field in this grade when beaten half a length. He's got the ratings necessary to take this out and if Gaudray can slot him in behind the speed he should go close. NATION'S CALL (1) is a handy horse with a good record, coming off an easy win at very short odds at Pakenham over a subsequent winner. Rates highly and will take beating. STAR VEGA (3) was okay first up in a bunched finish when unable to threaten but will be much fitter and the rise in trip suits. RUN NAAN (6) has won his past two and must have a case. OVERACTIVE (4) was okay at his Australian debut and can improve.
SELECTIONS: Awash to win.

DOOMBEN: RACE 8 @ 4:06 PM

DEEP RESPECT (6) is third-up and has raced at Listed and Group level at his last four starts. He's proved second-up and is suited under the race conditions. Will likely drift back from an inside barrier but rates well and is a chance with average luck. PONCA (11) has had two runs for the premier yard and was only beaten 1.3L here last time. Has some weight relief and keeps Maloney. Races forward and keep safe. SPICY LEGEND (2) needs to find more but is third up and can control the race from an inside gate. Has a handy 2kg claim and the first-time blinkers applied. Proven at this distance and will take pegging back. LUBRICATION (3) and SHA OF GOMER (1) also deserve consideration.
SELECTIONS: Backing Deep Respect.

BALAKLAVA: RACE 4 @ 2:00 PM

THE CASSINI (2) picked up nicely in the lane to just miss at Mildura. Rates highly on best figures and the rise in trip suits. Bold showing anticipated. FANTASTIC HOST (4) got off the mark with a determined win two back and then followed it up with a solid effort at Swan Hill when sent out favourite. Strikes an easier assignment this time and is a winning hope. HARBOURING (1) has plenty of early dash and is sure to be giving another bold sight. Shoulders a handy record at this venue and could just catch them snoozing. ALLUSION (6) showed improvement last start at Gawler when filling the frame. Steps out to a preferred trip and has a key jockey booking in Holder. Don't take lightly.
SELECTIONS: Backing The Cassini to get the verdict.

BELMONT PARK: RACE 5 @ 5:00 PM

MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE (3) bolted in as favourite first-up at Bunbury and the form coming out from behind him has been superb. Both the second and third horses have come out and won, with the gelding showing superior speed on June 2. Can find the front again and repeat the dose. SPREAD THE RUMOUR (5) is a lightly raced galloper who ran a hole at Pinjarra last start as a 25-1 chance. This looks a similar event and he's drawn to be prominent in the run again. Can improve again now third-up and won't be far away. RAPID ROCK (4) just held on for a narrow win at Northam 16 days ago and is not to be discounted off the inside draw again. Nicely weighted after the claim and he can put his best foot forward again. ODIN OMEN (7) can build on the handy first-up effort and is worth including.
SELECTIONS: My Hidden Universe can repeat the dose.
