 Semillion to fire in Missile

The previously mentioned Group 2 Darley Missile Stakes comes up as the eighth race on a 10-race card at Randwick.

This set-weights contest is set to take place over 1200m and will see a field of 10 go to post, including likely favourite Schwarz.

Trained by John O'Shea & Tom Charlton, the four-year-old recorded a win in the 1400m Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas at Hawkesbury in early May.

Schwarz has made just one subsequent start, with that effort coming when down the field in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic over the same distance at Eagle Farm the following month.

The son of Zoustar has been given a break since that Eagle Farm effort and arrives here on the back of an impressive barrier trial win at Warwick Farm last month.

SEMILLION has been in good form of late and he is preferred on this occasion, with the gelding chasing his second win of 2024.

The pick's first success of the year saw him come home a length clear of his rivals when racing over 1200m in Newcastle's Listed Takeover Target Stakes in May.

Semillion has placed in two of his three subsequent starts, including when runner-up in a six runner renewal of the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes.

The selection raced over this distance on a heavy 8 track, when beaten less than two lengths while partnered by Jordan Childs on that occasion.

Tommy Berry takes the ride for the first time here and his mount looks capable of overcoming a wide barrier to register his fourth career win.

 Nun for Behemoth glory

The highlight on the Morphettville card is the Group 3 Behemoth Stakes over 1200m.

A soft 6 track is expected with the mare See You In Heaven set to have her supporters for the Richard & Chantelle Jolly team.

The five-year-old boasts a 50% strike-rate (2/4) when racing first up with those two wins, including a victory in this race 12 months ago.

The mare won by over a length that day and went on to register solid efforts on the Parks track here and over the border at Flemington subsequently.

However, it's a concern that she hasn't been seen in action since finishing 10th in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap over 1600m at Caulfield in October last year.

SECOND TO NUN has been kept busy this year with her narrow margin success in an 1100m handicap here last month her sixth win of 2024.

The five-year-old was returning from a short break that day having failed to shine in The Cummings Stakes, a Group 3 event over 1600m here in May.

Second to Nun has done most of her winning over further, including when taking out the 2050m Strathalbyn Cup in February, however, she has proven herself to be a versatile type distance wise.

The selection won on a soft 7 track when partnered by her jockey here Kayla Crowther last time out, with the slightly quicker going expected here no issue.

Trained by Will Clarken & Niki O'Shea, the mare has a good barrier five off the rail and looks capable of completing a double.

Scuderia to salute at The Valley

The fifth race of the day at Moonee Valley is an interesting 1000m Benchmark 100 handicap event.

SCUDERIA boasts a good record at this venue, having won four times here last prep and she is the pick to resume with a win.

While all four of those victories came over 955m, the selection has performed well over this distance in the past including when third of five here in February last year.

Trained by Thomas Carberry, the daughter of Squamosa ended her last prep with a narrow victory in a Benchmark 84 handicap here in March.

The five-year-old looks ready for this step up in grade with the small field here and soft 6 going expected to be no issue.
