Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for July 9.

Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Canterbury, Sandown, Ipswich, Balaklava and Pinjarra.

CANTERBURY: RACE 3 @ 2:00 PM

Just the four to go around and they all have claims. SUPERHERO (4) stepped up to BM72 grade last start and ran on nicely for second over 1400m at the Kensington track. Coming back in distance today but is four weeks between runs and dons the blinkers for the first time. Looks the one to beat coming back to a BM64. SIGNOR TORTONI (3) led from the get-go for a dominant maiden win over this distance at Gosford last time out. Beaten under a length here at the same stage of last prep. Can improve further and looks a serious threat. KILONOVA (5) has not appeared since a tough win on debut over today's journey at Rosehill in late February. Two trials during June should have her forward enough to run another big race. MOONLIGHT DREAM (7) closed well but was no match for the winner in a Class 1 over this distance at Kembla last start. Should be peaking after two runs back.
SELECTIONS: Backing Superhero.

SANDOWN-LAKESIDE: RACE 5 @ 2:45 PM

SASSY JENNI (4) stands out here in a winnable BM64. She resumes here having last been seen tackling the G3 Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley behind top filly Bellatrix Star. Outclassed there, but the first up run at Listed level is strong form for this and she's won a trial leading in. Drawn ideally and looks a nice chance. DIVINE JUSTICE (6) resumes. Her form last time in was rock solid, third to the smart Nostringsattached here before a spell. Drawn the inside for Jamie Melham, she should take some beating. HOME ZONE (10) is a promising sort of a maiden win at Echuca who can measure up. BRUTALINA (3) was $1.80 when winning at BM58 level last time and isn't to be discounted.
SELECTIONS: Sassy Jenni to win.

IPSWICH: RACE 2 @ 1:43 PM

DEEP VEGAS (9) just ran into one better at Eagle Farm on debut before being tipped out for time to furnish. Has since returned with a strong Doomben victory and will have derived a stack of confidence from that win. Gets the reliable Gollan/Lang combination and can go back-to-back to start the campaign. CASSIERE (8) resumes here but the form she has shown in previous preparations is good enough for a race of this nature. Only needs some luck from the wide draw to be playing a role in the finish. Former NSW galloper RED HOT LIZZIE (10) is having her first run for the new stable but will find this easier than what she faced down south. Respect any push in betting. SWITCHBLADE (4) best of the rest while fresh.
SELECTIONS: Deep Vegas to win again.

BALAKLAVA: RACE 3 @ 12:45 PM

A race with a bit of a tail. TERRITORIAN (6) looks one of the clear standouts. He's placed in three of his seven starts and was very good first-up when narrowly beaten at this track. He can roll forward from the barrier and with natural improvement he will be hard to catch. TERMINAL SHOCK (14) is an untapped filly that caught the eye late first-up. She too can improve with the run under her belt and can settle close from a low draw. AMANDA'S JOY (7) and CANYON WIND (4) both need to improve but are worth considering for trifectas and first fours. ICANHEARZOU (12) could also improve into a place second-up.
SELECTIONS: Backing Territorian to win.

PINJARRA: RACE 6 @ 3:32 PM

LET'S TALK (3) is speedy and missed a lip on the Scarpside and then 1L here in stronger over 1000m. The longer sprint suits and he gets in well with the 3kg claim. He's capable of controlling the race and can make it four wins from nine starts. SILENT AMARDA (11) resumed at Northam with a Maiden win and is sure to build on that. Draws well and Pike sticking aboard demands attention. This is harder, but he has plenty of scope for improvement. DONT WAIT FOR LUCK (5) rwsumes and flies fresh. Owns a Lark Hill trial win and a bold return is likely. ALMA MATER (7) peaks and is knocking on the door. Needs a good ride from an outside gate but he will be around the mark at a price if he does.
SELECTIONS: Backing Let's Talk.
