Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for August 08.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Port Macquarie, Geelong, Ipswich, Mount Gambier and Canberra Acton.
PORT MACQUARIE: RACE 5 @ 2:55 PM
DWAYNE (1) last appeared seven weeks ago when a close fourth over 1550m at Canterbury. Has transferred from Waller to Nathan Doyle and looked good for the new stable in a recent Gosford trial win. Best form stands out in this field. RESUME (9) went close two back over 1280m at Muswellbrook then struggled over a longer trip at Tamworth last time. Freshened up and worth another chance coming back in distance. KICKOFF (7) was poorly away and never recovered when resuming over 1120m at Grafton recently. Can improve sharply over this more suitable journey with that run under the belt. Kris Lees-trained PARALIA (5) is back from a brief spell. Struggled last prep, primarily at the provincials. Capable of bobbing up in this company. NIKODY'S BINKS (11) hasn't been far away of late and is worth including in exotic bets.
SELECTIONS: Dwayne should be too good for these.

GEELONG: RACE 6 @ 3:40 PM
NAVY NINA (12) was expected to win here first-up, but things didn't work out. She returned 35 days later and was much too good for the Maidens over 1550m. Jamie Melham sticks aboard and will give her a sweet ride from an inside barrier. The mare is promising and can take the next step. CHILLY CHARLIE (11) comes back to turf, and that will suit better. He will position forward and has plenty up his sleeve. In the premier barn and has solid each-way claims. ETARA (8) has been racing well shy of her best, but finds easier and Lane is a key jockey booking. Maps well and has to be kept safe. Longshot HOODYS HORSE (1) resumed over this distance, and it wasn't a bad effort. He may be the one controlling the race, and he's proven second-up. Has pieces of form that would see him in the frame.
SELECTIONS: Navy Nina can take the next step.
IPSWICH: RACE 5 @ 6:09 PM
HIDDEN MELODY (1) has hit a purple patch with two wins and a close-up second from her past three outings and gets plenty of weight relief with the 3kg claim. Hard to knock mares in form and should be going very close again. Former Kiwi DETAIN (7) wasn't too far away in her first local run and will have come on with that hit-out now in the locker. Respect from the Lees camp. ZAINDARA (12) was a dominant Grafton winner when facing the starter for the first time and will have taken some confidence from that first-up victory. Keep very safe. KIRRAGIRL (8) returned in fine fashion with a solid win here and will strip fitter for that effort. In the mix. JUNGLE FEVER (2) best of the rest from the favourable draw.
SELECTIONS: Backing Hidden Melody.
MT GAMBIER: RACE 6 @ 3:40 PM
ONE KIND (8) is an interesting runner having his first start for the new stable. If he runs up to his best interstate form, he can make it a winning debut in SA. His fresh form is solid and he's a winner over the 900m short course previously. If horses can run on, he'll be hitting the line and can win. MAGIC FIELD (4) looks suited dropping back to this grade. He was a good winner at this track and distance two starts back and is well in after the claim. THE GOV (2) changes stables and has obvious quality, given her rating and prior form. GOPHER FRANK (5) and COOL AS ICE (6) both look place chances but can also mix their form.
SELECTIONS: Backing One Kind to win.
CANBERRA ACTON: RACE 6 @ 3:53 PM
Competitive. MIDNIGHT LUNA (7) needs a good ride but sits down in the weights and deserves her third win. Has found a place as favourite her last two, and Krogh replaces the 2kg apprentice. Sydney-trained COSMIC LAD (1) also draws awkwardly but brings provincial form to peak. He was only beaten 1.3L at Wyong last time over a mile, and the extra metres will suit. The blinkers are on again. AVONVIEW (5) ran his best race when winning a 65 this track/trip as expected. Has the rail and 2kg claim, and he's capable of repeating the dose. HEIR JORDAN (3) was outgraded in Listed grade last time, but the form prior reads well enough. He just missed this track/trip three back and presents freshened. Has the bar plates on and the synthetic hoof filler off, and that will be a niggle for some.
SELECTIONS: Going with Midnight Luna each way.
