Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for August 9.
Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Moonee Valley, Eagle Farm, Pinjarra, Morphettville and Townsville.
MOONEE VALLEY: RACE 4 @ 2:05 PM
MORNINGTON GLORY (1) resumes off an extended break due to injury but naturally looks very well placed in benchmark grade as a Group 1 Moir Stakes winner over this track and distance. In fact, he's unbeaten in four runs over this course and distance and has won a jumpout leading in. Late betting will be key but anything like his best and he may just be too good for these. If not, MIDWEST (2) is the one that will be very hard to catch. He's off a let up for this having run well at Flemington last time out behind the in form Marble Nine. He's also unbeaten (3/3) over this route and gets Zahra aboard. OAK HILL (3) resumes with an imposing winning strike rate. 1000m is his go and while this is a bit harder, he gets down in the weights with Shinn booked. BOSTON ROCKS (5) may want a touch further but can stay on late.
SELECTIONS: Mornington Glory to win.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Moonee Valley Computer Card.
EAGLE FARM: RACE 7 @ 3:12 PM
Group 2 winner CHRYSAOR (1) had dropped off a bit in form but has showed glimpses at the past couple and has a bit of class over most of these. Drops back slightly in trip and should be hitting the line with gusto. BULLION BOY (9) returned in good order with a strong win here on his home circuit and maps well from gate five. Can go back-to-back to start the campaign. SAILOR'S SECRET (7) has put back-to-back wins together over this seven-furlong journey and is racing with a lot of confidence of late. Top-three credentials. Former Godolphin galloper AMUR (6) has been thereabouts in both runs since joining the Gollan barn and will be ready to peak now third-up. Include in calculations. SUPER DUCK (8) is a last-start winner who shouldn't be forgotten.
SELECTIONS: Chrysaor each-way.
PINJARRA: RACE 4 @ 3:00 PM
TRUE PLAYER (1) gets the tongue tie on for the first time today following a disappointing run in tricky conditions at Bunbury most recently. Up in trip now is a big tick with Pike remaining in the saddle. He's come through good form races all campaign and now looks poised to strike fourth-up. MR TALENTINO (9) stuck on well as the race favourite in easier company at this track last start but can go to another level now as he reaches peak fitness. The draw should see him in a handy position for O'Donnell and he's expected to put his best foot forward. SIROTA (11) was too good on the Fibre Sand at Bunbury last start when sitting on the pace and running away to win comfortably. That figure stacks up in this field and a repeat effort would see him right in the finish again. MANZOR MAGIC (3) won't be far away as he hits peak fitness.
SELECTIONS: True Player gets the nod.
MORPHETTVILLE: RACE 7 @ 3:37 PM
RECOMMENDATION (2) is a five-time Stakes winner that hasn't been beaten far in his last two runs in strong sprint races in Melbourne. He likes it soft and has drawn the inside gate. He will roll forward and be very hard to catch. Where is the ceiling for emerging filly CICALA (9)? We may find out on Saturday but there's no reason to the think the mare can't be in the finish again. She was tough when winning the Lightning Stakes and, although this looks harder, she might be pretty good. LINGANI (7) bolted in on a wet track last time and can repeat the dose if it's soft or heavy again. Expect IS IT ME (3) to run a big race fresh.
SELECTIONS: Recommendation to win.
TOWNSVILLE: RACE 2 @ 12:29 PM
LECONFIELD (1) switched from the Waller yard and found a place here first-up, backed off the map. His Sydney metro form stands out, and he's on a quick back-up. Fitter and he'll take beating. DASHING GYPSY (7) is the likely threat building on her placings here and at Mackay. Butler sticks and will give her every chance. OVERWATCH (10) switched from a smart Snowden yard in Sydney and looked a run short resuming at Cairns. She's disappointed since showing plenty early doors, but Wiggins sticks and she's up to winning in this company. CAPRICORNUS (6) rates well enough on the near miss at Mackay, but the 3kg claimer has to manage a wide barrier. Gets in well regardless.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Leconfield.
