Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for August 22.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Canberra, Geelong and Cairns.
CANBERRA ACTON: RACE 6 @ 4:25 PM
TAKE THE RAP (1) is a promising galloper from the local Gardner yard, who was backed off the map winning an 82 at Wagga first up. He was tried in Listed grade last preparation and has won 2/3 second-up. Owen stays aboard, and he should have them covered. SUPER EXTREME (3) was short of a gallop first up and then came here and was an easy Open winner over this trip. It was an impressive effort, and he will be fitter. He's likely to drift back and come hard late. SUTTON VELLA (5) won a 66 comfortably at Moruya first-up and then found Canterbury too tough on a heavy surface. She is proven third-up, and the longer sprint shouldn't bother. Needs a good ride, but Penza sticks aboard. CAPITAL HEART (6) wasn't too far away here in Open grade and will carry just 53kgs today with the apprentice booked. He's a candidate to lead and could pop up for a smart yard.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Take The Rap.

GEELONG: RACE 8 @ 5:05 PM
HOME ZONE (10) will run here instead of Adelaide tomorrow, and may cap off a successful day for the Hayes stable. She's been racing in much stronger, and two back missed 1.2L in a Sandown-Lakeside 64. She's been kept up to the mark with a Flemington jumpout, and a leading hoop will give her every chance from the handy barrier. ADELANTE (4) can also race handy and brings narrow defeats from Cranbourne. Hits this contest at peak and has winning claims. ARTPARK (15) resumes and is worth consideration at decent odds. She flies fresh, and her best numbers more than stack up. Yendall stays aboard and has been in the saddle when she's run her best races. ANIA (8) will be fitter again and has more to give. The gate and 2kg claim advantage, and in a key switch, the blinkers go on first time.
SELECTIONS: Backing Home Zone.
CAIRNS: RACE 2 @ 1:05 PM
Former NSW galloper BLUE STEEL (6) has been impressive in all four runs since joining the new stable including winning two from two over this track and trip. Racing with a lot of confidence now and winning rider Morrison sticks following that last-start victory. Rates the testing material. LOWLANDS (7) doesn't win out of turn but has been just behind the placegetters in recent efforts and gets the services of Wiggins in the irons. Can find the winners' stall this time. TYMON (1) is a very consistent conveyance who rarely puts in a poor one. Gets some weight relief with the claim and rates a genuine top-three candidate. LUCKY LENI (2) is drawn to get all the favours from the inside alley and looks one for the exotics players. LORD POWER (9) rounds out the selections.
SELECTIONS: Backing Blue Steel.
