Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for September 14.
Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Devonport, Bathurst, Coffs Harbour, Sale, Kilmore, Sunshine Coast and Northam.
DEVONPORT SYNTHETIC: RACE 4 @ 2:10 PM
LOVIN' BEV (3) peaks off two strong efforts on the turf as favourite. She will lead or stalk and gets in well with the 2kg claim. Expect her to race well around this circuit. ASVA (1) went close here over a mile in Open grade second-up and drops back to a sprint briefly freshened. Has the inside barrier and the 3kg claim brings him right into it. THE SPIRIT OF ZERO (5) came from last beaten 1L at Hobart first-up. He's proven second up and he's won here over the trip. Fitter and has claims. FIGHTING FLOYD (4) spiked his numbers beaten 1L at Hobart. Hasn't placed here in 4 outings but on the latest effort he may be worth another chance. ORIGINAL GLAZE (6) resumes for the new barn and his last four starts have been in metro company in Brisbane. Just missed here his latest trial and is certainly good enough. The betting will be key.
SELECTIONS: Backing Lovin' Bev.
BATHURST: RACE 2 @ 2:20 PM
KARMARDO (2) drops a few levels today and expected to get off the mark at start six. Boxed on stoutly when sitting on the speed from the wide gate when a narrow third over 1200m at Gosford. Winkers go on and should prove too strong for these. WANDAYE (5) improving mare who returned with an unlucky second over 1200m at Gosford. Doesn't get the same map favours today but this looks much easier. BACKHANDER (7) solid performance on resumption when stalking the fast tempo to finish second over 1000m at Tamworth. Dalton rides again with the claim and gets her chance from the draw. FUIL RIOGA (9) Archibald trained three-year-old filly by Calyx on debut. Given the two trials and kicks off in a competitive race. Each way.
SELECTIONS: Karmardo finds a winnable contest.
COFFS HARBOUR: RACE 3 @ 2:30 PM
SEND A TELEGRAM (6) ran up to some support at first run for new stable over this track and distance just over a week ago. If he's better for it and makes use of a good draw should be right in the finish. RELEASETHEWOLVES (2) was placed here on debut and wasn't able to repeat in two subsequent runs. Fitter for a recent trial and well worth including in the chances in an open race. MAGNOLIA JEWEL (10) has had a few chances but last couple have been improvements when just behind the placings. Must be included again. First starters CONCOCTION (1) and MOON FLYER (5) are big queries and should be kept safe.
SELECTIONS: Send A Telegram to win.
SALE: RACE 8 @ 4:55 PM
KHADIME (5) resumes and oozes class, boasting the much superior form lines. Has proven versatile with her speed, so can do as she pleases from the low alley. Will take beating if anywhere near her top. SEA POEM (7) produced a barnstorming finish to score at Bairnsdale over 1200m last start. Confidence-boosting win and a similar performance will see her right in the finish. LAKE FOREST (1) was too bad to be true first-up when well supported. Can improve sharply second-up and shouldn't be underestimated. MRS ARCHIBALD (2) has struck a purple patch of form with back-to-back wins, thriving in testing conditions. Should be prominent again. DRY FIRE (4) was brave when runner-up here last time. Deserves respect with that run under his belt and from the favourable inside draw.
SELECTIONS: Khadime looks a classy type and can win fresh.
KILMORE: RACE 3 @ 2:50 PM
ACELUM (1) was narrowly beaten at Geelong first-up after a yard switch when expected to win. He brought strong form to that and went close on the Lakeside at his only second-up outing. Strips fitter and sets a decent standard. No surprise to see MONEY WHEEL (3) make a quick improvement. He's switched from a leading Sydney barn but lacked the necessary fitness and Geelong first-up. Charged home beaten 1.5L at Kembla Grange prior over a mile and he's placed 2/2 second-up. WHEREWITHAL (7) couldn't quite get there at Cranbourne on debut. He resumed heavily bet in a strong form race on the Ballarat synthetic but didn't get into it. Maps well and should be sharply better back on turf. TIVACI CODE (8) debuts and has been well prepared with three jumpouts. Profiles well and deserves a betting watch. TALLINGAS INDIROSE (10) will appreciate the longer sprint and shouldn't be far away at a price.
SELECTIONS: Backing Acelum to win.
SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 1 @ 12:50 PM
FIND ME (4) resumes here but the form he showed in his first preparation was good enough to warrant serious consideration in a race like this. Revved up for this with a recent trial victory and gets the reliable Gollan/Jones combination. Rates the testing material. JEANS (6) placed at the Gold Coast when facing the starter for the first time and gets 2kg weight relief from the inside alley. Ticks plenty of boxes. EXCEEDINGLY BRAZEN (3) is on debut but has shown ability at the trials and won't need to be a superstar to be competitive against this lot. Respect any market moves. I'M NELSON (5) hit the frame at Warwick when at the races for the first time and will have derived a stack of benefit from that race day experience. In the mix. ODIN'S MOUNT (11) best of the rest.
SELECTIONS: Find Me to return a winner.
NORTHAM: RACE 4 @ 3:25 PM
COVERT ROSE (3) was sound first-up from back in the field over 1300m and getting up to the mile second-up looks a good move. She boasts a strong second-up record and Pike hopping on board suggests she's ready to fire. Maps to get her chance and looks the one to beat. MANHATTAN STRIP (1) settled last over 1300m here last start and beat home Covert Rose on that occasion. The inside draw may be a query with his racing style, though he's proven here and if he can stretch his recent form, he'll take beating. IDYLLIC RULER (2) is racing in good order in stronger races and returns to a track and trip where he's had plenty of success. The 2kg claim comes in handy and he'll go close if they're positive out of the barriers. JUST LEROY (4) was too good here last time out and drops in weight off that effort. Can go on with the job. SKETTA (7) is not out of this on what he did last start in tougher company.
SELECTIONS: Covert Rose gets the nod.
