Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for September 17.

Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Canterbury, Bendigo, Doomben, Murray Bridge and Belmont.

CANTERBURY: RACE 3 @ 2:45 PM

JUST A JOURNEY (7) led for the judge but couldn't hold off a smart one in Tuileries when resuming over 1400m at Warwick Farm last start. Gave away a fitness edge that day so her effort was full of merit. Nicely placed out to this trip and is sure to prove tough to catch around here. EXCLUSIVE ARTIST (8) kept finding to get up for fourth over the mile at Warwick Farm when second-up from a spell recently. Peaked third-up last prep with a big win at Gosford. Her best is good enough. CAPTAIN MAVERICK (1) had a 39-day freshen-up and registered his fourth second in succession when beaten narrowly over this course and distance last time out. McDonald's engagement might be the key. The only other chance looks to be HAMMETT (8) who can improve on a modest first-up performance. HIGHBORN HARRY (6) has ability but generally needs a run before finding form.
SELECTIONS: Keen to be with Just A Journey.

BENDIGO: RACE 7 @ 4:40 PM

The speedy TREMBLES (8) resumes and when last seen wasn't beaten far seeking the hat-trick in stronger company. The promising galloper flies fresh and has jumped out well. She will be naturally improved and Zahra is booked. A bold return is on the cards. GRINZINGER SUN (13) resumes and is also up to this. Her fresh form is sharp and her Flemington jumpouts have been good. Maps for a soft run and Williams' booking suggests they mean business. LEAVE NO DOUBT (12) resumed on the Ballarat synthetic, winning a 64. Back on turf won't bother, and he's been tried at Stakes level. He's a chance to go on. INTEREST POINT (6) was expected to win in Adelaide first up but disappointed for the new barn (vet cleared). He'd prepared well and is good enough at best. Maps well and is proven second-up. Keep onside.
SELECTIONS: Backing Trembles.

DOOMBEN: RACE 2 @ 1:20 PM

SHADWELL LANE (10) is unlucky to still be a maiden finishing runner-up in both career outings to date and this is not an overly strong affair. Just found one better over this track and trip last time out and Graham stays on top. Rates the testing material. The well-related TSZYUYA (7) (half to G2 winner Amazonian Lass) has placed three of four this time in work and gets the reliable Gollan/Jones combination. Expected to measure up. POWER REECE (8) is facing the starter for the first time but has shown ability at the trials and any market support must be noted. TINTAURA (6) resumes here but was thereabouts in both starts in her first preparation and can run a race while fresh. PENSIERO (4) next in line with the claim.
SELECTIONS: Shadwell Lane to go one better.

MURRAY BRIDGE: RACE 2 @ 3:05 PM

A couple of the raced brigade look smart, although it's hard to get a handle on all of the first starters. ARTISTIC ANGEL (11) showed ability last campaign and looked sharp at the trial earlier this season. Her first-up run was only fair and she's capable of much better. She's drawn well and has no weight after the claim for the stable apprentice. Think she can lead and win. CAPITALEX (1) lines up for the new stable with a decent record of four placings from eight starts. He's tackled stronger maidens than this and his recent trial suggested he's ready to go. Liked what GOLDEN TUNES (8) did on debut in the south-east. This is harder but he's open to improvement. Of the first starters, perhaps include GOOD EXPECTATIONS (12).
SELECTIONS: Backing Artistic Angel to win.

BELMONT PARK: RACE 3 @ 2:59 PM

SURFSIDE SESSION (1) sat up on the speed last start when only beaten 0.5L over this course and distance. He'll be fitter for that performance and the inside draw is a big tick for his chances. Ready to go to another level now second-up and he looks poised to strike. DE GRANDHOMME (3) was a touch disappointing last campaign but the stable pulled the plug rather quickly. He looks back on song this time in work judging by his recent trial and Pike hops back in the saddle. Blinkers come off now and he can return to his best form. POINT ROCKS (4) trialled behind De Grandhomme recently and was an eye-catching winner first-up last campaign at a massive price. He disappointed in his following effort but the form out of the race worked out nicely. Can return on a positive note. HELLAINE (9) comes in without a trial but has some solid NSW form behind her. Can feature. RIVETING ROSIE (6) resumes without a trial but Brad Parnham rides and she creates interest.
SELECTIONS: Surfside Session can go one better.
