Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 12.
Australian thoroughbred meetings are today held at Queanbeyan, Coonamble, Seymour, Cairns, Geraldton, Launceston and Bairnsdale.
QUEANBEYAN: RACE 6 @ 4:15 PM
ANGEL IN THE WIND (1) has been racing in stronger metro and provincial company and was beaten just 1.5L at Rosehill 15 days ago. Is well-placed back home in a 58 and can win for the sharp barn. DITA VON (2) is a danger building on narrow defeats at Corowa and Wagga. Kissick sticks aboard and is flying. STEELY GIRL (3) drifted back second up last start and boxed on well to finish 3L from the winner in stronger at Canberra. Draws out but Mathew Cahill is a key jockey switch and she's proven third up. SPURLINE (5) won a CL1 here two back and then was plainer in stronger at Goulburn. Better suited and should be around the mark. PRETTY EYED (9) was better at Canberra last time but needs to find extra to be winning.
SELECTIONS: Backing Angel In The Wind.

COONAMBLE: RACE 6 @ 4:05 PM
TAINUI (8) returned from a spell last start and almost made an immediate impact, edged out in a BM82 over this distance at Tamworth. Ultra-reliable sprinter who only needs to hold that performance level to be right in the finish. MYSTERY LAD (1) led all the way and just held Tainui at bay when they clashed at Tamworth recently. Quality country sprinter with outstanding 1200m stats. Has a wide gate and a big weight but still poses the greatest threat. RUNNING BEAR (5) was too bad to be true at Dubbo last start. Best figures measure up favourably in this company so at decent odds he is worth another chance. STRATIFIED (7) is not a noted first-up performer so his tiring effort when resuming at Dubbo can be overlooked. Nock has won three from five aboard the gelding and he reunites. Likely improver. SMART AND DAPPER (10) is up in grade but at the weights from the inside stall is worth plenty of thought.
SELECTIONS: Tainui to win.
SEYMOUR: RACE 3 @ 2:00 PM
SUNLIT SERENADE (14) resumed in a stronger maiden at Sandown Hillside and ran a strong race, coming from well back to motor into fourth, beaten two lengths. Now gets to 1600m for the first time which should suit down to the ground. Lane goes on and while the draw likely sees her get back, she should be too good. MOVE THE TORANA (9) ran a better race last start at Kilmore having struggled on heavy going prior. Expect she gets a nice run here midfield and can prove very competitive once more. ZEACTION (6) stuck on gamely fresh at Benalla over 1406m to get within a long neck. She showed promise last time in over more ground so this trip second up looks perfect. MEET THE WIFE (8) has been solid to the line in two runs back from a spell and now should be ready to peak getting to a mile. BON EROS (11) wasn't bad on debut in the same maiden as Sunlit Serenade and is open to improvement.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Sunlit Serenade.
CAIRNS: RACE 5 @ 4:25 PM
THE KAMIKAZE (5) has come back in fine fashion putting back-to-back wins together over this track and trip with hoop Fry being in the saddle for both victories. Racing high on confidence and should be right there at the business end again. FLYING ARTIST (2) resumes here but the form he showed before the break was good enough for a race like this. Gets the services of Wiggins in the stirrups and can show up while fresh. GAMADALE NIP (4) has a win and two placings from six attempts over this sprint journey and is usually thereabouts. Top-three conveyance. THREEBROTHERS (8) will be ready to peak now fourth run back and may earn some minor money. CATALINA DREAMING (6) next best from the favourable draw.
SELECTIONS: The Kamikaze to bring up the hat-trick.
GERALDTON: RACE 4 @ 6:51 PM
DE GRANDHOMME (1) hit the line with purpose fresh at Belmont and that run will have topped him off beautifully. Steps up in trip which looks ideal and he maps to get every chance in a race lacking depth. STRYKER'S GAL (3) resumes and is more than capable on her day. Has shown glimpses of ability and the booking of Turner catches the eye. Can run a bold race fresh. PLAYFUL STAR (9) hasn't been landing blows recently but gets in light and draws to stalk the speed. Could surprise. WEAPONS HOT (4) led them a merry dance at Moora and although this is tougher he deserves another shot. CLEVER COMBAT (7) ran well first-up and should only improve with the outing. Keeping safe.
SELECTIONS: De Grandhomme to win.
LAUNCESTON: RACE 3 @ 2:45 PM
RESPITE (2) was backed off the map on debut (synthetic) and didn't have much luck. Went back and bolted in delivering her Maiden. She has plenty of scope for improvement and is likely to be just as effective on the turf. GEEGEES LEGACY (4) resumes and Darmanin's engagement suggests he's pleasing the stable. Missed a whisker here two back over this distance and has trialled positively for his return. Maps well. GEEGEESCHASER (10) led and just missed on the synthetic and will be better for it. Back on turf no issue and she also has claims. THANKGODITSFRIDAY (1) is a former Kiwi resuming for the Keys yard. Shown ability and has the inside gate and 2kg claim. The late betting needs monitoring. Stablemate GOLDEN SWEET HEART (5) resumes and has shown enough to include at a price. Has a solid trial under the saddle and draws inside. Will carry just 53kg with the 4kg claimer engaged.
SELECTIONS: Sticking with Respite.
BAIRNSDALE: RACE 6 @ 4:35 PM
SHOCKSTAR (3) is close to breaking through after two consecutive placings, the latest coming when second over 2010m at Kilmore. Maps well and is well-placed in this lineup. Top chance. MARLIN (1) missed a whisker this track/trip and then skipped across to Adelaide and didn't get warm in a 63 at big odds. This suits better, and on a 3-week return he can make the finish. HAND OF DOOM (2) comes back in trip off the Maiden win at Moe, where he led them up. Has a low gate and will give a sight at decent odds. SUNSET MISSILE (6) would be a chance at best but she has to find it as would SMOKIN' GIANT (8).
SELECTIONS: Backing Shockstar.
