Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 24.
Australian thoroughbred meeting are today held at Moonee Valley, Scone, Ballarat, Mackay, Sunshine Coast, Gawler, Launceston and Canberra.
MOONEE VALLEY: RACE 4 @ 7:45 PM
Competitive race. CAPPER THIRTYNINE (4) is racing very well and finds a suitable race. He's been narrowly beaten in fourth at his past couple, beaten under a length in a strongly run race at Flemington last time out. He lands in a good spot from the barrier and will take running down. PRINCESS QUE (5) was solid last time at Flemington behind Capper Thirtynine down the straight but had been going even better prior. Second to La Fracas around here two back is excellent form and Lane sticks with her. FLYER (14) was much better at big odds in G3 company last time and has to be included off that run while MYTEMPTATION (2) ran well fresh and is better placed out to 1200m from a good draw.
SELECTIONS: Capper Thirtynine on top.

SCONE: RACE 4 @ 4:00 PM
MORTAL HALO (8) resumes after racing without luck in Group company over the Queensland winter. Shuffled back early from the low draw before chipping away late when tenth over 1600m in the G1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm last June. Given the two trials and finds a nice race to shed his maiden status. HELLFIGHTER (7) improved sharply at his second race start when he launched late for a narrow second over 1400m at this track. Has further upside and not to be underestimated. RUSTEMO (10) handy gelding who shouldn't be a maiden for long. Nice return from the long break when he closed fast for a good second over 1200m at Port Macquarie. Gets the right run and shapes as a leading prospect. SPICY SURPRISE (11) Tagaloa three-year-old-colt from Misty Summer on debut for the Archibald yard. Shown ability in all three trials and he finds a nice race to kick off.
SELECTIONS: Mortal Halo can sprint well fresh
BALLARAT: RACE 2 @ 1:45 PM
TIPSY GYPSY (11) settled near the tail of a small field then went through her gears in good style to get up for third on debut over 1000m at this track ten days ago. Perfectly placed out to this trip and the quick turnaround is a positive sign from the stable. Looks the one to beat with the help of an inside gate. SHOT OF SATIN (7) went hard early but was feeble in the closing stages first-up over this course and distance recently. Might be a surprise packet with the blinkers going on today. TUXEDO MISS (12) wound up late but was never a threat last start over this distance at Kyneton. That was her first run in over a month so there is scope for improvement. Market watch on THINK BABY (10) first-up from an eight-week let-up for the new stable. Headwater first starter WETLAND (14) has shown enough in recent jump-outs to suggest she is ready to run well.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Tipsy Gypsy.
MACKAY: RACE 6 @ 5:34 PM
DON'TDOUBTHELADY (1) resumes and looks beautifully placed to kick off her prep in style. The Taylor filly showed real promise last campaign, progressing through the grades before tackling Listed company in The Phoenix at Eagle Farm. That run is easily forgiven, and her sharp trial work suggests she's come back well. Was a dominant winner here first-up last prep and from the good draw with Wiggins aboard, she looks impossible to go past. RAFF VADER (4) charged home late last start and with his light weight, he'll be flying late again. PENSEUR POSITIF (2) is honest and back to a winning trip, while LOST LAMB (5) deserves respect after breaking through. Include in exotics.
SELECTIONS: Don'tdoubthelady best on the card.
SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 3 @ 8:00 PM
VAREJAO (7) is unlucky to still be a maiden placing in six of eight overall and strikes a very winnable contest here. Has placed five from seven over this sprint journey and should be going close to shedding the maiden tag against this lot. CARBONARA (10) got up to Listed level when last in work and will be fitter for that first-up effort in town. Include in calculations. MR DEMOCRAT (5) resumes here but showed enough in his first campaign to warrant some consideration in a race like this. Can run a race at odds. EGYPTIAN GODDESS (16) will be at peak fitness now and may earn some minor money in a race decimated by scratchings.
SELECTIONS: Varejao to break the maiden status.
GAWLER: RACE 8 @ 7:24 PM
Tough way to finish. BELLEZZE (5) is a lightly raced mare with a bit of upside. Easy maiden winner two back then a solid fourth latest in tougher company. Drawn for a soft run and should be hard to hold out with even luck. MEG'S MAGIC (18) is fitter for two runs back and looks ready to fire. Well placed this company and drawn for a good run with cover. STARTIDE (9) is in great form with a win two back then a placing last time. Rates strongly on best but will need a little luck from the horror draw but does have a form jockey aboard. OMAHA DAWN (6) followed a second at Murray Bridge two runs ago with a win last start over 1200m at Balaklava, finishing a neck ahead of her rivals. Must be considered.
SELECTIONS: Bellezze can atone.
LAUNCESTON: RACE 3 @ 7:08 PM
JUDGE JENNI (6) has switched stables and brings two close-up efforts from country Victoria on a 28-day return. Was heavily bet in both. That's good form for this. The inside gate will advantage and the leading jockey is booked suggesting she's pleasing the yard. Stablemate HENLEY EXTREME (5) came off a long break and led here as a $2 favourite first-up, beaten 1L over this distance. She's still well short of her NSW best and will be hard to roll with the extra fitness. SEDITIOUS AWARD (8) went close first-up in the same race. Keeps the 2kg claim but she gives away starts and always needs luck. WARRIORA (9) is lightly raced and has a jockey switch to Pires. Her Hobart effort three back would see her competitive and she may show more today.
SELECTIONS: Going with Judge Jenni.
CANBERRA: RACE 5 @ 3:43 PM
DUNDEEL FLYER (9) is in a top Sydney stable and is well-placed to win. She peaks off strong runs at provincial and metro level and Alysha is a key jockey engagement. She still has more to give and maps for a soft run in transit. Next best is the local ROONAMI (14), who missed a whisker here first-up. Penza has to manage a wide gate, but the filly has plenty of scope for improvement and is likely to come hard. BRUTAL BELLE (5) was heavily backed when missing a lip at Moruya, but was plain after at Cootamundra when expected to win (vet cleared). She will use an inside barrier and can bounce into the placings. GLASTONBURY GIRL (11) raced new at Kembla Grange on debut and found a place in a Warwick Farm trial since. Likely needs more time but she's in good hands and goes into the trifectas/first fours.
SELECTIONS: Backing Dundeel Flyer to win.
