It's Lightning Stakes Day in Adelaide and the final metropolitan meeting of the season, with Rochelle Milnes set to win the Adelaide Jockey Premiership.
With significant rain forecast in Adelaide across Friday and Saturday, the track is expected to race well into the heavy range and I am keen to identify horses proven in those conditions.
My best bet comes up early in the day and I'm keen to be on Lingani in Race 2. She is a quality mare on her day, having won the Lightning on this day 12 months ago.
She comes back in grade after tackling the Listed Monash Stakes in Melbourne last start and, with the additional run under her belt, I feel she's ready to produce something like her best third-up. After the 2kg claim, she will only carry 52kg.
She is undefeated on heavy tracks and I think that might be her edge over current favourite Sixteen Reasons, who looks the horse to beat.
She's already been well backed from her opening quote but at around $4.50, I'm keen to play.
Later on the card, I think High Society Girl is a great each-way bet in Race 7. The Stephen Theodore-trained mare is on the seven-day back-up and is racing very consistently.
Three starts back, she won well on a Soft 7 and she will be even better suited on a genuine heavy track. The slight drop back to 2000m might be the only negative but if it's slog to the post, I'm happy to bank on her fitness.
She looks a great play at double figures.
