Best bets for the nine-race card at Thomas Farms Racecourse Murray Bridge on Saturday.
Racing heads to Murray Bridge for the first meeting of the new season in South Australia. The conditions are expected to markedly different to last weekend, with the likelihood of an improving track in the soft range.
I'm banking on local trainer Michael Hickmott having a big day – he currently has the favourite in four of the nine races.
In Race 3, I think Swycho is ready to win, third-up to 1600m. There's been a lot to like about both of her runs to date this campaign in stronger contests over 1200m and 1400m.
The mile appears to be her sweet spot and, with a 3kg claim for Emily Pozman, she gets in well at the weights. She's an uncomplicated mare to ride and I expect her to roll forward, race on the speed and take some catching.
The improving track will likely be in her favour as well. I'm keen to play at the current quote of $3.70.
In Race 7, I think her stablemate Endless Forevers is a good each-way bet at around the $5 mark. I'm happy to forgive her first-up run in a strong-rating race, where she settled back and was never a winning threat over 1000m.
Up to 1200m, I'm expecting her to settle closer in what looks an easier race on paper. She's untapped but I liked what I saw in her maiden win last campaign and in her jump outs prior to resuming this time in. I'm banking on her having a bit more upside than most of her rivals.
A few punters seem to agree with me and she's already been well found in early betting.
