We head to the Goldfields for Kalgoorlie Cup Day this Saturday for the running of the $150k Listed Kalgoorlie Cup, as well as the inaugural running of the Golden Saddle worth $1m for the sprinters.

The rail was in the True position for Hannans Handicap Day on Thursday and will remain in that position on Saturday, with the track anticipated to remain in the Good range.

Some rain is forecast for Saturday, but suspect it'll come later in the day with a top of 30 degrees.

Looking at the Kalgoorlie Cup, it does appear a race in two between last year's winner Starry Heights and the Perth Cup favourite from earlier this year Sentimental Hero.

Sentimental Hero bolted in last start in the Boulder Cup, quickening impressively to run out a 2.9 length winner in the main lead-up 13 days ago.

While he does meet Starry Heights worse at the weights for that effort, it's not enough to negate the last start margin and the slick sectionals the local champ produced to score - on weights and measures anyway.

He's clearly the second pick in the race, although Starry Heights will need something to shift, whether his own performance or the effort of Sentimental hero, if he is to turn the tables.

The Team Williams gelding hasn't run past 103 since winning the Kalgoorlie Cup with a RAS Rating of 111 last year.

Down the bottom, I Love Your Smile comes here off two narrow wins, but figures and splits to back it up. She leads the chasing pack in the market, and it wouldn't surprise to see her jump a single figure chance on Saturday afternoon.

Over to the Golden Saddle now where MAGNIFICENT ANDY makes plenty of appeal.

Despite jumping an 80-1 chance in The Quokka when first-up last campaign, he stuck on from midfield on a hot tempo to finish just a length off Jokers Gring in a very impressive performance.

He's trialled just as good coming into this race and if he can run up to that level on Saturday, it's hard to see anything else in the race making the jump to get past him.

He maps for a lovely run midfield under his old mate Brad Parnham and if he can hold the form we saw in the Autumn, he can kick off on a winning note.

Of the others, Hanchi may represent some value at his double figure price. He was very good when winning the Jolly Beggar last time out and while he did pull up with a slight issue out of that run, he's since trialled very nicely at Lark Hill. He looks to get his chance from the barrier and the rise in trip won't be an issue.

Looking to the other races on the day, I'm happy to throw up KERVETTE in race five as my best bet of the day.

She had plenty of fans last start when back to 1400m but never really got a chance to show her best when held up for much of the straight.

I think getting back to the mile for her is a big tick and the RAS Ratings she ran when scoring over the mile two back stand out in this field.

Pike now hops in the saddle and if you can forgive her most recent effort where nothing really went right, she looks a good gamble at her price of around 3-1.
