Best bets for the nine-race card at Murray Bridge on Saturday.
Racing takes the country road to Thomas Farms Racecourse Murray Bridge on Saturday for one of the premier meetings of the spring, headlined by the Listed Murray Bridge Gold Cup.
Albeit there are some small fields, there looks to be decent quality through a few of the support races, including the Moorundi 2YO Classic, which is the first juvenile race of the season in SA.
I'm loathe to tip two-year-old first starters in early-season races but Inhabit couldn't have been any more impressive in a recent trial and I think she will be making a winning debut for Michael Hickmott and Todd Pannell in the Moorundi (R2).
In the trial, the daughter of Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside jumped fast and maintained a strong gallop to the post without being asked to quicken. She ran quick time, relative to several others that are also lining up for their first start on Saturday.
She's drawn wide but I think she will jump and cross to either lead or sit outside the leader. Over the 900m short course, I think she will be too speedy and will win. She's been a drifter in early markets so at better than even money, I think she's a good bet.
In the Gold Cup (R8), I'm keen to have something on Sir Kingsford on an each-way basis. While this horse is perhaps more adept over further than 1600m, he boasts a brilliant second-up record and is still a multiple winner at the mile.
He did enough first-up in a Balaklava Cup on a rain-affected track and, from barrier two and back onto a firmer deck, I'm expecting him to improve. He will roll forward, make his own and take some catching.
