Best bets for the nine-race card at Morphettville on Saturday.

Another Saturday, another spring fixture on the 'big track' at Morphettville, with a nine-race card primarily composed of mid-range benchmark handicaps.

There are a couple of horses going around that I think are destined for Stakes racing and one of them is my best bet, the Michael Hickmott-trained 4YO Party Crasher.

The son of Ocean Park emerged as a Derby prospect during his three-year-old season but was a late scratching behind the barriers at Eagle Farm when lining up as an $8 shot in the Queensland Derby.

He was spelled and return with a satisfactory run over 1400m first-up where it appeared he peaked at the 200m against some fitter, sharper horses. With the benefit of that run, the extra 400m and a slight drop in grade, I am confident he will improve second-up. He is a winner on Good and Soft tracks so the conditions should've matter too much to his winning chances. He maps to get the perfect run from barrier four for Todd Pannell and I think he'll win. At around $3.50, I think he's a backable price.

As far as value goes, I am keen to have a small 1x3 bet on veteran sprinter Grand Host in the last race. He is nine runs into a campaign that began back in the autumn but, for the most part, he continues to race well.

The weather will be key to his chances and if the predicted 4mm-25mm forecast is correct, then the track could be seriously rain-affected come the last race of the afternoon. Grand Host is a horse that loves it soft or heavy and, in these conditions, I think he can go close to winning.

It's worth noting that he's also an acceptor at Gawler on Friday evening and, if he runs there on a wet track, then I'd also be keen to bet.
