Today's racing in South Korea

Seoul Race 1: Class 4 (5f) Special Weight A / $54,000

Imported maidens with five of the eight racing for the first time. It's an absurdly big prize for an ordinary-looking set and despite a poor debut (1) SMILE DAY will be favourite. After winning a trial, he was sent off as favourite on debut but after starting slowly, only manage to rally for 7th. With a better start here and a but more maturity, he can be given another chance. (5) CRAZY STAR ran fairly in his trial for 3rd place in a decent enough time. If he brings that to the races, he will be close. (2) MYEONG MAN was dreadful in his first two but has since been back to trial and looked better. He draws well and surely improves in this company. (8) SYDNEY YEONGUNG was 2nd in both his trials and along with (4) NARO MA STAR, will have backers on a place line.

Selections   (1) Smile Day (5) Crazy Star (2) Myeong Man (8) Sydney Yeongung
Next Best   4, 3
Fast Start   2, 8

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (6f) Special Weight A / $22,000

A slightly better maiden. (8) ALIFER has been gradually progressing across her six starts to date, culminating in a 2nd place on June 7th in a filly only maiden at 6 1/2f. She has never actually been tried over the six-furlongs but in this company, she can sit just behind the speed, and she has as good a chance as any. (9) SOMETHING DARK enters off a best to date 3rd place at 6 1/2f when ridden a bit further forward than in prior efforts. Given similar tactics here, he can be close again. (6) HWANGGEUM MASK has three consecutive 4th place finishes, all at 6 1/2f and should be there or thereabouts again. (3) YONGAM SARANG and (11) MR.CARA are others in the frame.

Selections   (8) Alifer (9) Something Dark (6) Hwanggeum Mask (3) Yongam Sarang
Next Best   11, 1
Fast Start   1, 2, 3, 9

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (6 1/2f) Special Weight A / $22,000

More maidens. (10) MYEONG POWER has been working towards a win and comes in having registered his best finish so far when 2nd at 7f on May 25th when ridden on pace for the first time. Despite the wide draw, he can be up there early again, and this time he can win. (9) CHEONGHAE STAR has a couple of 3rd place finishes to her name, including last time out in a filly only maiden at this distance on June 7th when settling midfield and running on. She has the fastest time for the 6 1/2f and should be aiming to match or better that 3rd place here. (1) RAON PARANOMA should get an easy run to the lead from the inside gate and third-up can be peaking. (11) HERO CHOICE and (7) VALKYRIE are other place chances.

Selections   (10) Myeong Power (9) Cheonghae Star (1) Raon Paranoma (11) Hero Choice
Next Best   7, 4
Fast Start   1, 4, 10, 11

Busan Race 1: Class 4 (1M) Handicap / $54,000

Fillies and mares only here and it's hard to go against (5) YEOSU SUPER STAR. After winning her first two to get promoted to this level in double-quick time, she ran a very good 2nd on her first try at this class and distance on June 6th, racing handy throughout. She should have benefitted from that experience and continuing under a light weight, she should be going one better. (3) UNION CHAMP is the danger. A promising juvenile last year she missed six months but returned in April to win over 6 1/2f and then run 2nd at 7f at this class. The mile can suit and third-up she can be peaking. (6) LIME TREE comes out of the Triple Tiara where she was 4th in both the Luna and the Oaks and then 5th in the Gyeonggi Governor's Cup. Lightly weighted, she should be in the mix. (2) WONDERFUL CUTIE and (8) ACE HIGH others in the hunt.

Selections   (5) Yeosu Super Star (3) Union Champ (6) Lime Tree (2) Wonderful Cutie
Next Best   8, 1
Fast Start   3, 5, 6, 8

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (6f) Handicap / $32,000

Fillies (and one mare) only. (7) SSAK DANAEUN didn't do much on debut last November and didn't reappear until April. She has been much better with a win and a 3rd in two starts back, the latter at this class over 6 1/2f on May 25th, racing on pace. She can be on or close to the speed here and can win. (10) SONEULNAMILOE got her maiden win two starts back and then ran 3rd at 6 1/2f having led for most of the way on June 14th. Her draw isn't ideal but with some early luck she can get forward and be a danger. (3) ALL NUT comes back to the distance at which she got her win and from a good draw and with Moon Se-young up, she will have plenty of supporters (11) YEOWANG SOCKS and (4) EXCELLENT HANSEN others who can go close.

Selections   (7) Ssak Danaeun (10) Soneulnaemileo (3) All Nut (11) Yeowang Socks
Next Best   4, 2
Fast Start   1, 4, 5, 10

Busan Race 2: Class 6 (6 1/2f) Special Weight A / $22,000

Several of these raced each other over this distance on June 15th, including (7) POWER STONE, who was making his debut. He ran well, overcoming a slow start to finish 3rd, and with some natural improvement, he can win this. That will mean overturning the form on (9) JUST SHINY, who was 2nd in that race, showing handy throughout. He can sit on or close to the speed and he should be close again today. (4) SUCCESS POWER was 4th in that race. That continued a progression from his debut, and he is another who can be on the early speed and in this a long way. (8) GLORY SUNSHINE and (2) VICTORY STORY are others who can challenge for the places.

Selections   (7) Power Stone (9) Just Shiny (4) Success Power (8) Glory Sunshine
Next Best   2, 5
Fast Start   2, 4, 5, 6

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (7f) Handicap / $32,000

(3) MUNHAK CHUKJE has won two of his last three most recently at this class and distance on June 15th when, as is his style, he settled midfield and ran on. He has the steadier of an additional 3.5kg on his back today, but he draws nicely, and he can win again. (4) WONDERFUL TECHNO returned from almost a year out to run a very solid 2nd place at this class and distance on June 21st. He should have come on for the run and he shapes as the main danger here. (6) KYLIE remains a maiden after seventeen attempts, but she enters in her best gorm with a 2nd and a 3rd from her latest two. In this company, she can be on pace and in it a long way. (2) RAON NOTHERN DANCE and (10) CAPTURE among others in the frame.

Selections   (3) Munhak Chukje (4) Wonderful Techno (6) Kylie (2) Raon Nothern Dance
Next Best   10, 1
Fast Start   1, 6, 7, 11

Busan Race 3: Class 5 (6f) Handicap / $32,000

(5) VANGIE is yet to finish worse than 4th from five starts and enters off back-to-back 2nd places most recently at this distance on June 27th. He makes a quick return here and can settle behind the pace and can go one better. (4) POWERFUL RUN produced exactly that to score an all the way on debut over 5f. She comes up in class and in distance but draws well and she can measure up. (2) RACE MAN was 2nd in a quick race at this class and distance on June 13th. She will be on pace again and will surely be in this a long way. Plenty of others have place chances with perhaps (7) JJAK SARANG and (3) BLACK WAVE the most likely.

Selections   (5) Vangie (4) Powerful Run (2) Race Man (7) Jjak Sarang
Next Best   3, 1
Fast Start   1, 2, 4, 8

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1 1/8M) Handicap / $32,000

Since (1) WORLD JOY got his maiden win back in March, he has raced three times at this level for two 3rd places and most recently a 2nd on June 8th at 1 1/16M. One of those 3rd places was his only previous try at this distance and while he comes up 2kg in weight, he can settle just behind the speed here and prove too strong. Twenty-six start veteran (7) GRATITUDE remains winless but come sin following a runner-up finish at class and distance on Juen 29th when ridden on pace. He makes a quick return and this is similarly the kind of race where he can go close. (8) BLACK SATANG got her maiden win at start number three over 6f on June 14th. She has got better with each run and can continue to make progress today. (2) GHOST CHRYSOL and (3) NONSTOP SERVE are others in the hunt.

Selections   (1) World Joy (7) Gratitude (8) Black Satang (2) Ghost Chrysol
Next Best   3, 5
Fast Start   3, 6, 7, 9

Busan Race 4: Class 5 (7f) Handicap / $32,000

Fillies only here. (8) MOTHER CHUKJE stepped up to this distance for the first time on June 6th and from a handy position went on to win well, beating a few of today's rivals. She comes up 2kg in weight, but Franco, who has ridden her to both wins so far, stays on and she can go back-to-back here. (1) TUHON FIGHTER was 4th in that June 6th race, briefly striking the front in the home straight. From the inside gate, she will be on pace and should be in the finish again. (2) GLOBAL HEROINE is yet to win from eight attempts but has likewise only finished outside of the top five on one occasion and from a good draw, she can be there or thereabouts again. (10) TOHAMSAN TAEYANG and (4) WONDERFUL TEAM are others in at least the placing frame in what is a competitive race.

Selections   (8) Mother Chukje (1) Tuhon Fighter (2) Global Heroine (10) Tohamsan Taeyang
Next Best   4, 9
Fast Start   1, 2, 8, 11

Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (1 1/8M) Handicap / $43,000

(3) ECLIPSE BLACK was given his chance in the final leg of the Triple Crown last month when he finished a fair 7th of thirteen over 1 1/4M. He comes back into shallower waters here at a distance he is one for one over, and he will be a hot favourite to return to winning ways today. (8) CHANGJOUI ACHIM is yet to win in fourteen attempts but loves finishing 2nd, something he has done in four of his last five, including his latest at this class over 1 1/16M on June 14th. He may find one too quick again here but shouldn't be far away. (7) SPLENDID enters off back-to-back wins, most recently at this class and distance on June 7th. He has to contend with an additional 4.5kg but can be in the mix again. (4) HANGANG GLORY and (6) SUMMER PARTY among plenty of others capable of competing for the places.

Selections   (3) Eclipse Black (8) Changjoui Achim (7) Splendid (4) Hangang Glory
Next Best   6, 9
Fast Start   3, 5, 7, 9

Busan Race 5: Class 3 (6f) Handicap / $54,000

Competitive race. (10) YULIM SESANG has won two of his latest three, both at this distance, to take his record to four from nine in total. He comes up in class here and as a front-runner, has the challenge of a wide gate, but he is down 4kg in weight, and he can win again. (4) BEOLMAUI ANGEL took a shy at the class 2 stumps last time out and ran a fair 5th of ten, albeit well back behind a quick winner. He returns to shallower waters today and can be close. (1) GOLDEN AIR joins Yulim Sesang up in class having run 3rd behind him on June 13th. He comes down a full 6kg in weight and from a good draw, can be a big danger. (3) SAMAKUI KKOT and (2) NUMBERONEPICK are others in the frame.

Selections   (10) Yulim Sesang (4) Beolmaui Angel (1) Golden Air (3) Samakui Kkot
Next Best   2, 7
Fast Start   1, 3, 8, 10

Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1 1/16M) Handicap / $43,000

(3) GRACE ROUTE was an on-pace winner at this distance on June 15th. She comes up in class here but is down in weight, draws well, and with Moon Se-young climbing on for the first time, she can win again. (2) YONGBI POWER enters off two 2nd places and a 3rd from her latest three, most recently at this class and distance on June 15th. She is up 3kg is still fairly weighted and she can be competitive here. (10) OKCHEON WIN STAR comes in off a 3rd place at this class over a mile. That was back in April, so she is in fresh here and has a place to her name at this trip. (7) LOVE O MINE and (4) CHEONGUNG STORM are the other main chances.

Selections   (3) Grace Route (2) Yongbi Power (10) Okcheon Win Star (7) Love O Mine
Next Best   4, 9
Fast Start   3, 4, 5, 10

Busan Race 6: Class 1 (1 1/8M) Handicap / $80,000

(4) BEOLMAUI MONSTER comes in having run a strong 4th behind Global Hit, Speed Young and Success Baekpa in the Busan Mayor's Cup over 1 1/8M in May. A two-time winner at this distance, he carries his fair share of weight but after having acquitted himself well against the elite, there is little to fear here. (3) STAR MATTA enters having won at this class over 7f on June 15th when coming from well off the pace and beating plenty of today's rivals. The veteran has four wins and eleven placings at this distance too and while he carries even more weight than the top pick, he can be competitive. (5) GREAT WINNER was 3rd behind Star Matta in that 7f race but has won three of his four tries at this distance and can be in the mix again. (9) JEONGMUN COBIT and (2) MACH TITAN other possibles.

Selections   (4) Beolmaui Monster (3) Star Matta (5) Great Winner (9) Jeongmun Cobit
Next Best   2, 6
Fast Start   1, 5, 8, 10

Seoul Race 9: Class 3 (6f) Handicap / $54,000

(3) PASA KING has won three in a row coming in here, most recently at 1 1/16M in June. He comes up in class here, but is down significantly in weight, he has won at this distance before, and he can make it four in a row here. It's not an easy race though. (4) ACE K was a winner at this distance at class 4 level two starts back before running 3rd on his first try at this class over 7f on June 15th. He'll be on pace and can be a danger. (7) SPARK THUNDER was a winner at this class and distance two starts back and while she could only manage 5th on her return on June 7th, she did beat a couple of today's rivals, and she can be in the mix. (1) PINK WIND and (2) GLOBAL POWER are others to consider on a place line.

Selections   (3) Pasa King (4) Ace K (7) Spark Thunder (1) Pink Wind
Next Best   2, 5
Fast Start   1, 4, 7, 8

Seoul Race 10: Class 3 (7f) Handicap / $54,000

A winner of four of his first five starts, (6) CAPTAIN P.K. was expected to be one of the major players on the Triple Crown this year. As it was, he only ran in the first leg when he finished well down the field. He returned to form with a 3rd place at this class and distance on May 31st and in this company, he can make an overdue return to winning ways. That will mean overturning the form on (10) GREAT STORM, who was 2nd in that May 31st race, having race don pace throughout. He comes up 3.5kg in weight but that was his first outing in almost a year so he should strip fitter and be a danger. (8) HANGANG PERFECT ran 3rd on his first try at this class over 7f last time out. He is a winner at this distance and should be in the mix again. (3) GOLD SIDAE, with a line through his latest, and (4) COSMO RUN, are others in the hunt.

Selections   (6) Captain P.K. (10) Great Storm (8) Hangang Perfect (3) Gold Sidae
Next Best   4, 2
Fast Start   2, 3, 4, 8

Seoul Race 11: Class 2 (7f) Handicap / $65,000

(7) KONGNAMUL has won his latest two, both at this distance in fine style, racing on pace in both. He comes up in class, but he is down in weight, and he can complete his hat-trick here. If this race was at 6f, (5) SAENAE TOWN is yet to win in five attempts at this distance but he has won at 6f and 1M since April so it shouldn't really be a distance thing. He enters off a 4th place at this class and distance on June 14th and should be improving here. (8) GEOSEN BANGYEOK has been a bit ordinary in his latest three, but he has been back to trial since. He came through his heat in an eye-catching manner and so long as he didn't leave his race there, can be in the finish. (2) SHADOW HUNTER and (1) ACE GUNJU others in the placing frame.

Selections   (7) Kongnamul (5) Saenae Town (8) Geosen Bangyeok (2) Shadow Hunter
Next Best   1, 10
