Strathalbyn Racing Club was formed in 1922 and its proximity to Adelaide saw it quickly become a popular racing excursion for Adelaide residents due to its picturesque rural setting and panoramic views. Strathalbyn racecourse is tight circular track with a circumference of only 1690 metres which brings racegoers close to the action. Strathalbyn racecourse is the home of the Strathalbyn Racing Club and hosts 14 race meetings each year with several feature meetings including the Strathalbyn Cup in February and Langhorne Creek Cup.

The home straight is 340 metres in length with a downhill run from the 800m before a steep rise that is a renowned feature of the track after passing the 400m. Strathalbyn racecourse caters for races over distances from 1200m to 2050m with chutes providing starts over 1350m, 1600m and 2050m. Training facilities at Strathalbyn racecourse include an inner grass training track and a sand track.
