It was the St Leger meeting at Doncaster.
Day 2 was Friday and we had the Flying Childers where all our tips were still running with the win going to Revival Power on 17/2 from Kansas and Dickensian 9/1. Oh well.
The Howard Wright Doncaster Cup saw Sweet William being a sweet boy and repeating his win in this race of 2024 with Pendragon second and Hipop de Loire third.
Saturday was St Leger Day and started off with the Champagne Stakes for the 2yos with a win by Puerto Rico much to our delight (and benefit) from Oxagon but then there were only five runners in the race.
The Park Stakes saw a very good run from Marvelman (Balding- O Murphy) to win this from King's Gamble 20/1 and Audience 6/1.
Then the St Leger itself with Scandinavia under Tom Marquand lift to add this trophy to the Goodwood Cup. Rahiebb 14/1 snuck up along the fence to challenge the winner but had to settle for second and Stay True 11/2 who had also been in contention taking third. Unfortunately Further didn't want further.
Another bit of good news is that former Chris Waller pupil Sparky Lad and his Kiwi rider Clarke Johnstone won the Stg 45,000 prize in the Racer to Eventer Challenge. This prize had been organised to inspire more flat trainers to look to eventers when their charges near the end of their racing career and dressage and eventing people to check out trainers for possible mounts.
