Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for July 11.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Moruya, Scone, Geelong, Moe, Mackay,
Mount Gambier and Carnarvon.
MORUYA: RACE 7 @ 3:34 PM
VERMICELLA (11) impressed when narrowly beaten at Randwick and resumed at Warwick Farm, beaten 2L in a 64 against her own sex on a heavy track. She placed this trip in her only run here and draws inside again. Fitter and tumbling in weight she's the one they have to beat. CAPITAL HEART (7) led from a wide gate and was narrowly beaten here this grade. Peaks and the longer sprint should be in his favour. In good hands and should be right in it. ALMOST PERSUADED (4) brings good numbers from Queanbeyan. Needs a good ride but gets in well with the 3kg claim and can make the finish. YOUR NOT THE BOSS (9) has some weight relief and has gone close at the provincials a couple of times this preparation. Has a sticky barrier to contend with but can't be discounted.
SELECTIONS: Backing Vermicella.

SCONE: RACE 5 @ 3:10 PM
THE BIG BLUE (6) returned from a fifteen-month spell with an encouraging third last start over 1350m at Wyong, doing his best work late. Bred to relish the step up to a mile so with that comeback run out of the way he looks poised to break through. Lightly raced filly GRAINNE (9) improves at each appearance, the latest offering a solid second at Kembla when tackling the mile for the first time. Carries the same weight in an easier maiden so she is right in contention. GHAZNAVI (1) backs up five days after storming home to miss by a whisker over 1400m at Mudgee. Now seventeen races without a win which is a concern - one for the exotics. TARRANT COUNTY (5) impressed at Narromine last time and is open to further improvement. It would be a big surprise if the winner came from outside this quartet.
SELECTIONS: Keen on The Big Blue.
GEELONG: RACE 4 @ 1:20 PM
Quite like the look of SIEGE PERILOUS (4) back to this trip. In a race of little speed, he could press forward and sit just off the pace. Going well enough this campaign and looks ready to win now. EKANITE (14) hasn't been far off in two career runs to date and should be right around the money when it matters once again here. JUDGE JENNI (9) was only beaten a length resuming at Donald on rain-affected going and comes right into play here. DURNESS (7) has had admirers in two career runs and retains each-way appeal once again. FIRST INFANTRY (2) is heading in the right direction, last start finishing third over 1512m at this track. Include in wider plays.
SELECTIONS: Siege Perilous finds a very suitable assignment today.
MOE: RACE 6 @ 2:25 PM
TIGHT GRIP (14) won a 58 here comfortably over this trip and then came back and wasn't far away in the same grade. Draws awkwardly again but is a chance to bounce with average luck. THE CAST OFF (4) resumes and is proven fresh. Kicking off over a mile shouldn't be an issue and she's up to this. Has a 1.5kg claim and the betting will be key. SHOT AT THE NIGHT (2) found more like his best beaten 2L here second up. With average luck in the run he can be in the finish. RICH CURVES (16) will be better for her two runs back. She's still well shy of her best and may push forward off the freshen. A chance sitting down in the weights.
SELECTIONS: Going with Tight Grip.
MACKAY: RACE 5 @ 2:44 PM
MORDECAI (1) is a very consistent conveyance who has remarkably hit the top-five in 19 of his past 20 starts and doesn't know how to put in a poor one. Has placed four from four at this track and should be right there when the whips are cracking. KINGS CASTLE (3) got a well-deserved victory at the latest outing and will have taken some confidence from that dominant win. Top-three candidate. VANCOUVER BAY (2) is yet to miss a drum in three starts around this circuit and is sure to give a big sight. CARACRISTI (10) is a winner around this circuit and draws the inside alley. In the mix on best form. ORCA (6) is much better than that first-up effort suggests and can bounce right back.
SELECTIONS: Leaning towards Mordecai.
MT GAMBIER: RACE 4 @ 1:40 PM
BLISSFUL BAY (1) has less convictions than most of his rivals and he is topweight for a reason. His two most recent runs have been good enough to win this. He's drawn wide but he's in well after the 4kg claim. He's the horse to beat. THEY CALL ME DUSTY (6) only boasts a lone win to his name but it was at this track, which counts for something. Forget last start and trust his prior form. HEADSMART (5) hasn't won for a long time but is capable of better, while INTERFERING (9) did enough first up to suggest a win isn't far away and is worth consideration here. HASTA LA PRINCE (4) nice return last start when runner-up at Bordertown over 1550m. In the mix.
SELECTIONS: Backing Blissful Bay to win.
CARNARVON: RACE 5 @ 6:41 PM
WESTERN IMPACT (4) was too good here two starts ago before a narrow defeat as favourite last time out. He draws well this time around and the claim of Webster comes in handy. Gets a good chance to blend into the race at the right time and can return to winning ways. IMPERIALIZE (3) drops back in trip today after going under at Bunbury in a strong race at Bunbury last time out. Faithfull hops off Western Impact to take the ride on him and that's a big push for his chances. Can improve back to this level and he's sure to make his presence felt. RUN TEDDY RUN (6) resumed off a long break in good style over 1200m at this track. He was 60-1 there and that looks a strong foundation for him to build on. Can sit closer today and with improvement expected, he can play a role. KUNAPIPI (5) was far too good last start and can repeat the dose. SHABALALA (1) beat a few of these rivals first-up and is not to be discounted.
SELECTIONS: Western Impact can get back to winning ways.
