Caulfield Guineas day sees three Group Ones and deep betting races across the card.

We're heading to the feature for our best bet of the day at Caulfield which comes up in the form of Autumn Boy.

The Golden Rose is the premier lead up for the Caulfield Guineas and has been for some time, and given the winning standard from the key lead ups (Golden Rose, Stutt, Prelude), I think that will be the case again.

The Golden Rose won by Beiwacht who rated 123 on the RAS scale is just one pound shy of Astern in the past ten years, while the Stutt won by West Of Swindon at 108 is ever so slightly above average but well behind the likes of Hey Doc (116) and Glenfiddich (115).

Meanwhile, the Guineas Prelude won by Estremo (who isn't here) at 103 was the lowest rating Prelude in some time.

While the ones behind Beiwacht, including Autumn Boy, were well behind, we can use the market to some degree there and Autumn Boy's expected rating is very strong.

Now, he needs to live up to that expectation somewhat on Saturday, but I think there's a case he can. 1400m of the Golden Rose on a very quick deck in track record time simply saw him out-paced and unable to keep up, covering plenty of ground wide without cover for good measure.

This has been his grand final and everything he's done to date suggests we won't see the best of him until he gets to at least this trip. He'll need a bit of luck from the inside gate but I'm expecting a peak performance and have marked him favourite.

For the each-way play we'll roll back to Race 2 where Tres Magnifique brings completely different form to the main lead ups and I think that's a good thing.

She won a Ballarat maiden over 1000m on debut very impressively, a fast tempo setting up a very good time figure, backed up by her rattling home in sharp late splits.

The time ratings match up very similarly to those through the Scarborough Stakes where Point Barrow flew home and is the favourite here.

She's deserving of that role but we'll take the fast French filly up to a suitable 1200m with the gun jock at double figures.
