Racing is conducted at Cessnock Racecourse in the Hunter Valley of NSW by the Wine Country Race Club, a subsidiary of the Newcastle Jockey Club. Located 3km south of the Cessnock City Centre, Cessnock racecourse was purchased by Newcastle Jockey Club in 1981 and rebranded as Wine Race Club in 2002. Cessnock racecourse hosts up to 12 race meetings each year including the Cessnock Cup and Jungle Juice Cup.

Cessnock racecourse is a circular track of 1800m circumference with a 320m home straight. The Cessnock track is constantly turning from all starting positions. The home straight is a pronounced downhill run that favours leaders. The Cessnock course proper and facilities were upgraded in 1998. It has become a popular venue for families looking to enjoy picnic style country race days with a grandstand overlooking the mounting yard and Sea.
