The Port Hedland racing season runs from May to August and culminates with the Port Hedland Cup, the jewel in the crown of Pilbara racing and race with a history spanning more than 100 years. The track spans more than 1700 metres and features a long sweeping turn from the 1000m to the top of the 300m home straight. The course is predominantly dirt but is turfed from the 400m.
