Rosehill Gardens is a Sydney racecourse and is the main racing venue in the West of the city.

Near Parramatta, Rosehill Gardens was the major course of the Sydney Turf Club before its merger with the Australian Jockey Club in 2011.

Racing has been conducted at Rosehill since the 1880s when land owner John Bennett purchased the site to construct a racecourse and recreation area. The first race meeting at Rosehill was held in 1885.

The course proper is 2048m in circumference with a home straight of 408m. It is mainly a triangular track, however the 1100/1200m races jump from a chute up the middle of the track. 1500m events leave from the back of the track around the outside of the course and middle distance races from the side and staying races in the home straight.

Rosehill is also a major training centre catering for trainers with on course stables including leading trainer Chris Waller, the Hawkes family and Gerald Ryan.

The most important race conducted at Rosehill Gardens is the Golden Slipper, renowned as the world’s richest turf race for two-year-olds. Some of the great moments in racing have come in the Slipper.

Other Group 1 races held at Rosehill include the HE Tancred Stakes, Rosehill Guineas, George Ryder Stakes, Ranvet Stakes, Coolmore Classic, The Galaxy, Golden Rose and Vinery Stud Stakes.

The great one Winx won the George Ryder Stakes in four straight years with some extraordinary ratings.

In 2019, it will see the first running of the Golden Eagle – a race worth $7.5million at the start of November for four year olds over 1500m.

Facilities include the multi-story JR Fleming Grandstand, The Grand Pavilion and the Rosehill Exhibition Hall.
