Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 23.

Australian thoroughbred meeting are today held at Geelong, Hawkesbury, Mornington and Geraldton.

GEELONG: RACE 2 @ 3:00 PM

Onto the Geelong Classic where we see some Victoria Derby hopefuls. AZAZEL (4) is the one that looks most suited getting to a trip. He was there to be beaten on debut but just kept grinding away before a similar run when 4th in the Super Impose at Flemington, boxing on for a narrow defeat. Drawn well, he'll land in the first few and can stake his claim for the classic. Very wary of MATSUDA (3) who was dominant in fast time at Sale, scoring by five lengths. Forgive his run two back in the Derby Preview at Flemington when copping interference. HIGHVOL (1) can improve up in trip. The run in the G2 Stutt Stakes was good for a horse on a Derby path, then he just had no hope drawing wide in the Caulfield Guineas. DON'T DOUBT DARE (16) could be sharp improver out of a farcically run debut in the Oaks Preview.
SELECTIONS: Backing Azazel & Matsuda.

HAWKESBURY: RACE 6 @ 5:00 PM

SPIRIT OF WEALTH (2) resumed in a high rating contest when taking control early before fading in the straight to finish sixth over 1100m at Randwick in BM78 class behind Monte Supreme and Chidiac. That form has since been franked, and the two trials should have her back on track. Goes close. LADY MEMPHIS (10) will be at her peak for this, and the fast tempo gives her a great winning chance. Closed quickly when producing fast closing splits when a narrow second over 1000m at Muswellbrook. Drops in weight from the good draw. TANGO QUEEN (9) win record hardly excites but expected to have strengthened over the break. Can roll forward from the low gate with the two trials under her belt. STILL ALICE (3) held ground to the line over this track and trip when a fighting second on September 25. Kept fresh and due for a change of luck.
SELECTIONS: Spirit Of Wealth can find winning form.

MORNINGTON: RACE 7 @ 4:30 PM

KASTUN STAR (6) won his Maiden easily at the track and then threatened at Sandown-Hillside before the near miss back here 25 days ago, heavily supported. He's been kept up to the mark with a jumpout win at Flemington and has a handy 2kg claim for this. Suited and just needs average luck from the awkward barrier. DANCING JUICE (10) resumes with a comfortable Maiden win at Kilmore and it was a tough effort following a slow start. He's still shy of his best and benefits from Cartwright's 1.5kg claim. He looks capable of taking the next step. THE MARG FACTOR (9) mixes the form but is a capable galloper suited at best. Has a 2kg claim and she can't be ruled out. BATTAGLIA (2) maps well and has been close up his last two. The 3kg claim can see him competitive.
SELECTIONS: Backing Kastun Star.

GERALDTON: RACE 7 @ 7:25 PM

HEWILLDOUS (3) resumed a big CL1 winner over 1213m and there was a stack of merit in the effort. Settled back off the wide gate and covered plenty of ground. Has the inside gate today and the longer sprint suits. With the extra fitness he can take the next step. LADY NEGRONI (9) has scored at her last two starts most recently over 1350m at Toodyay as favourite. Has a wide gate to contend with but is sure to go well again. QUEEN'S SACRIFICE (8) resumed with a strong placing at Toodyay and then was slow to recover at York and forgive. She has more up her sleeve and has plenty to weight relief this grade with a 3kg claim atop. Will push forward from the wide barrier and a much better effort is likely. MOMBASA (1) resumes and has won fresh. In the mix if presented on song.
SELECTIONS: Backing Hewilldous.
