The Civic Stakes is a Listed Race conducted by the Australian Turf Club and was run at Randwick in 2024.
The Civic Stakes was introduced by the Sydney Turf Club in 1950 as a feature winter sprint race and was won by De La Salle.
It has usually been run at Rosehill but was switched to Randwick in 2021. However before it was to be run, the NSW Government called a Lockdown of areas around Eastern Sydney due to a coronavirus outbreak and so the meeting was transferred back to Rosehill. Then in 2024 after a washout it was held midweek at Warwick Farm.
The race was known as the Civic Handicap until it became the Civic Stakes with it elevation to Listed status.
The distance of the Civic Stakes has varied many times from six furlongs/1200m up to seven and half furlongs/1500m. It is at 1400m at Randwick.
The 2024 Civic Stakes was run for prizemoney of $200,000.
There has been only one dual winner of the Civic Stakes – Magic Gleam in 1988/89.
Other notable winners of the Civic Stakes include De La Salle, Knave, Fine And Dandy, Rush Bye, Cele's Image, Redcap, Calmness, Shakedown, Foresight, Special Girl, Zambari, Triton, Gilt Patten, Top Charger, Radiant Echo, New Atlantis, Silver Flyer, Notoire, Carael Boy, Mic Mac and Generalife.
The 2024 Civic Stakes was won by Diamond Diesel from Estadio Mestalla and Essonne.
